Story synopsys
Strange events are going on in the Rance family house. Angela, mother of two daughters and wife of a man who is recovering from my brain disease, hears sounds in the walls and notices strange movements of the furnishings. The religious woman suspects a demon in her home, who has seized her daughter Katherine, who processed the death of a friend in a car accident. After long prayers at the church she receives support from the priest Tomas and the exorcist Marcus. When it turns out who is obsessed with the Rance, the events roll over and a conspiracy that deals with a Pope’s visit becomes part of the plot. The demonic powers seem invincible …
My opinion
The series is not really scary, but that’s not a big deal because the action is the true strength of The Exorcist. At least over much of the season. The Exorcist is a sequel to the 1973 cult movie The Exorcist, and this link is one of the biggest charms in bringing such a great twist into the middle of the season. This twist also partially changes the relationship of the characters, bringing a breath of fresh air to the story.
Unfortunately, the sideline to the conspiracy against the Pope is too much of a good thing. This side story would fit more in a Hellblazer comic and provides only for a subtle overload of the season.
That’s a shame if you look at the successful „world building“ of the series. You learn a lot about the characters and the religious life in which they live. In addition to the action, the series offers some very interesting figures with Father Tomas and the Exorcist Marcus spearhead. Both characters and the actors have a perfect chemistry with each other. The emotional Bromance also shows how much time the series takes to develop the important characters.
Apart from that, the special effects for a series are largely, very solid and qualitatively better than in most films of the exorcism franchise. Unfortunately, the soundtrack is rather inappropriate and some portrayals of obsession seem involuntarily funny.
Conclusion
All in all, the first season of The Exorcist is extremely solid and fortunately ignores all the movies after Part 1. Although the season finishes off at the end, the first two-thirds are very exciting and put well-placed twists. Although the series is not really scary, it has a lot to offer and a lot to talk about. Therefore, I forgive the rating worth seeing for The Exorcist season 1!
That’s it from my side. We read in the next post!
