Nach Godzilla vs Kong … mein MonsterVerse Ranking! | Gedankenspiel

Vor geraumer Zeit habe ich Godzilla vs Kong im Kino gesehen und deshalb wird es Zeit das MonsterVerse nochmals aufzurollen. Im heutigen Beitrag möchte ich alle Filme des MonsterVerse ranken und meine Gedanken in geraffter Form mit euch teilen.

Zwei Dinge bevor wir loslegen. Eine umfassendere Besprechung von Godzilla vs Kong ist bei SuperBroZ (Spotify) zu hören und zweitens das Ranking ist meine eigene Meinung. Eure Reihenfolge & Meinung könnt ihr gern in die Kommentare schreiben!

Fangen wir nummerisch absteigend mit dem „schlechtesten“ Film an!

Platz 4: Godzilla (2014)

Der Einstiegsfilm ins MonsterVerse ist optisch extrem beeindruckend und fängt die Godzilla Ästhetik gelungen ein um eine westliche Interpretation zu schaffen, ABER das ändert nichts daran, dass der Film sich zu sehr auf die Handlung der Menschen fokussiert. Auch wenn die Story durchaus interessant ist nimmt sie einen zu großen Teil ein und verdrängt die titelgebende Echse von der Bühne.

Im Ansatz ein guter Film, aber leider mit einem falschen Fokus für Kaiju Fans wie mich.

Platz 3: Kong: Skull Island

Hier könnte der Text von Godzilla (2014) stehen, ABER mit dem Unterschied, dass der erste Film mit Kong alles besser macht als sein Vorgänger. Die Balance zwischen Monster-Action und Menschen-Story ist wesentlich besser gelungen, was den Film auch wesentlich spannender macht und sich wie ein waschechter Abenteuerfilm anfühlen lässt.

Diesen Film kann ich uneingeschränkt empfehlen, da auch „Kaiju-Neulinge“ ihren Spaß damit haben können, weil der Film von der puren Monster-Action etwas abweicht.

Kurz gesagt; toller Film mit toller Balance!

Platz 2: Godzilla vs Kong

Je weiter die Menschen-Story in den Hintergrund rückt und der Fokus richtung Monster-Action wandert desto besser werden die Filme. Godzilla vs Kong is erzählerisch gelungen, aber der Fokus liegt klar auf den Schlachten zwischen den Kaijus.

Für Godzilla Fans bietet der Film einiges, da neben den bekannten Monstern auch der Fanliebling Mechagodzilla auftaucht und zum Tanz bittet.

Erzählerisch ist Godzilla vs Kong besser als sein Vorgänger aber das gilt auch nur für einen Handlungsstrang.

Platz 1: Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Okay das werden jetzt nur wenige verstehen, aber ich LIEBE Godzilla: King of the Monsters aka Godzilla 2 und das liegt simpel am gigantischen CGI Gerangel zwischen Godzilla, King Gidorah, Mothra & Rodan. Klar die Handlung passt auf einen Bierdeckel und sie ist auch nicht gut geschrieben, aber das kann man dem Film verzeihen, da hier so enorm viel Fanservice betrieben wird.

Dazu kommt ein recht hohes Tempo für einen zweistündigen Film und mein Tipp für den Film ist: Hirn ausschalten und sich genüsslich berieseln lassen, wenn die gewaltigen Kaijus (sorry Titanen …) sich die CGI Schädel einschlagen, damit am Ende ein König der Monster gekrönt wird.

Ich hatte & habe bei jeder Sichtung meinen Spaß mit diesem Film und dadurch verdient Godzilla: King of the Monsters den ersten Platz!

Das war‘s auch schon mit diesem kleinen Ranking. Ich hoffe es hat euch gefallen. In Zukunft würde ich gern mehr zu Godzilla machen, aber da werde ich sehen ob & wie mich die Muse küsst!

2021 ist auf jeden Fall ein gutes Jahr für die alte Echse.

The evolution of the MonsterVerse by Legendary Entertainment| Mind Game #3

I really love Godzilla. The atomic is since my childhood a part of my life. For me the movies are great even when they are sometimes very trashy. Also i like Mothra and Gamera but these two Kaijus will get their own posts in the future.

Today i want to write about the MonsterVerse from Legendary, which is the second try to create a Godzilla franchise outside of Japan. That means i will share my thoughts about Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla II: King of the Monsters.

Godzilla (2014)

Godzilla (2014) has a large focus on the story of the human characters during the run time of more than two hours. It’s okay when a Kaiju movie wants to tell a story beside the monster action. Godzilla: Final Wars and the Netflix trilogy did the same but there has to be a health balance between action and story. This movie has more story then action and that is the biggest weakness of Godzilla (2014).

The designs of Godzilla and the two MUTO Kaijus are amazing. Especially Godzilla looks awsome and the iconic scream is impressive.

What about the story? Well Godzilla (2014) retells the origins of our beloved atomic lizzard and is set 15 after a nuclear meldtown in Japan which subsenquently awakens the two giant creatures called MUTO and they awake Godzilla whose existence is hide by U.S. government since 1954.

Next to this story we have a family drama which focus on a man who lost his wife during the meldtown and his son. Both get in the fight between mankind and the Kaijus.

Even when there is to less action in this movie (funny when you think about three giant monsters whose are the main topic of the movie), there is one good point about the story. It build a universe. This is the first movie of an upcoming cinematic universe and this movie has to introduce many elements for future movies like Godzilla, other monsters and the strange organization Monarch. The last called is very interessting and explores the different Kaijus of earth and is part of alle three realesed movies.

Godzilla (2014) may not be the best movie arround the atomic lizzard but it’s definitly not the worst.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

I’m not very interessted in King Kong. I don’t know why but the giant monkey isn’t as epic for me as the giant lizzard. That is also the reason why it took nearly two years until i saw Kong for the first time and i liked the movie. It was very good because of the better balance between story and monster action.

The story is set in 1973 on the mysterious Skull Island. A team of scientists and vietnam veterans travel to the island with the order to explore it. During their mission the team encounters strange creatures and the giant ape Kong.

In contrast to the first film, the eponymous monster is more in focus here. In doing so, the human figures move more into the background, but are still important enough to be a useful part of the plot.

Just like Godzilla (2014), the technical aspect of film is one of the biggest strengths of this film as well. Kong and the rest of the monsters are extremely imposing, ranging between fascinating, amazing and terrifying.

All in all, Kong: Skull Island is a good movie that is also worth seeing for people like me, not King Kong fans.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

When I saw the first trailer of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, I was very skeptical because the monsters were portrayed as saviors. Even „scoundrel“ Ghidora. The next trailer showed me more of the classic Kaiju genre and I was really looking forward to the meeting of the icons Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidorah and Rodan.

Before I saw the movie I did not hear much positive about it. Especially the plot was heavily criticized, however, my expectations were not directed at the action but the action. Like in my mind game some time ago, my opinion about Godzilla: King of the Monster is extremely positive. Both about the simple story as well as about the powerful action.

The organization Monarch maintains outposts all over the world to explore the titans (giant monsters like Godzilla or Mothra). But when bioterrorists, with the help of a scientist from Monarch, liberate the gigantic dragon Ghidorah, in the delusion of saving the earth’s ecosystem, the gigantic battle for the earth begins. There can only be one king, and this one is not from humans …

The plot is extremely simple, but that’s not bad, because the true strength lies in the epic staging of the film. The structure of King of the Monsters is perfect for a Kaiju movie because it always keeps the balance of story (the part of human figures) and action outstanding. In addition, there is an extremely imposing depiction of the monsters Godzilla, Mothra Ghidora and Rodan. In this film, the giganticism of the Kaijus is celebrated as never before in MonsterVerse. You can tell by the almost exaggerated epic battles of the monsters. Especially the final fight between Gidorah and Godzilla is probably the most impressive thing there has ever been in the Godzilla franchise.

All in all, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the culmination of the franchise to date, and is tentatively (?) Completing the evolution in MonsterVerse but the confrontation between Godzilla and King Kong is still outstanding.

I wonder how this franchise will develop and what Godzilla vs. Kong will bring us next year. Until then, I thank you for the attention.
